Lindsey Bear meets Portland Bill

When I was first told that I was going to Portland with Alison I thought “Great! I’ve never been to America”. Then I realised that we weren’t going that far, just to Dorset. Not quite what a well travelled bear like me who has been all over the world (including the Great Wall of China) is used to. But hey ho there’s a recession and I haven’t had so many good offers this summer.

As you can see from the photos, we spent most days in a quarry!!

I though we were going to see some interesting places, but no, just a dozen people chipping away at large bits of stone. Mmm. It got all in my coat, and then it rained. I thought I was going to set! Luckily one of the group, a Welsh artist took me to Weymouth a couple of times. We had a very good time! Trip on the bus, lifeboat station, pasties for lunch, donuts, ice cream.  We ate well...

One evening we went to Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s place in Axminster. Great meal and I had my photo take with the Chef. Not HFW himself but a very nice guy.

We came home with one, large piece of rock. The other was just too big and although you can see how it might be an otter one day, it’s had to stay down there!

There’s a lot of rock to shift before its small enough to go in a car. We did try and tell him but I think he’s got grand ideas!!

They said I can go back next year. I might, but only if they do a sculpture of me.

Being such an important bear it’s the least I expect!
